What I Didn't Say
Let Down--For some reason, I thought this was going to be a great sermon (as my sermons go). After I was finished, I felt like I had really let everybody down (everybody meany the congregation, the Lord, myself, and all you who might listen to it after the fact). I think what happens in a case like this is I get over confidant. I feel like, "I've got this!" Because of this feeling, I must slough off on the research and preparation. Frankly, it's very humbling. You'd think after thirty plus years of doing this, I wouldn't fall into that trap.
Second Thoughts--Well, I'm in the midst of listening to the actual sermon. It's not as bad as I thought. Imagine that.
Third Thoughts--It's really pretty good, but it's also very long. I once heard a preacher say, "If you can't say it in twenty minutes, it's not worth saying." This sermon is forty-two minutes long. Either it wasn't worth saying, or it was twice as good. You make the call.
