What I Didn't Say
The Grinch--I never thought I'd be quoting the Grinch in a sermon..nor Dr. Seuss for that matter. And yet, it's a pretty good quote, even if I say so myself. Not only that, the Grinch is green. That's definitely a Christmas color.
Christmas Sermons--I usually don't put a whole lot of work into crafting a Christmas sermon. I usually try to find a good story to tell and fit a few comments in around it. For some reason, this year was different. It didn't turn out too badly. It helped that we had a good crowd. A good, responsive crowd can make the difference between a good sermon and a nondescript one.
Candle Lighting--Some of the most meaningful services I've ever been involved with were candlelight services. There's something about the symbolism, the warmth, and the comfort of all those candles in the darkness. That's especially true in an intimate setting like Smith Chapel.
