What I Didn't Say
Saying--My Mother used to say this all the time..."dumb like a fox." I'm not sure why people always pick on foxes. Think of it. How many sayings are there that end in "like a fox." Sly like, dumb like, crazy like... I guess it's very Biblical since Jesus told his detractors to go tell "that fox" (meaning Herod) that He (Jesus) would reach His goal on the third day (Luke 13:32). Hmmm...kingly like a fox...treacherous like a fox?
It just now occurred to me, my Mother's Mother's maiden name was Fox. Does that make me "related like a Fox?" Sorry...
Fox--I live in Virginia. We have a lot of fox here. We have a lot of foxes here. Either of those happens to be correct English (look it up). My wife is a fox (but don't tell her I said that). Thus, fox hunting (when it was legal) was big here. The other kind is still big here.
The foxes that live here are fast, sly, sleek and red. But since I mostly see them dead on the side of the road, I figure they're really dumb...at least when it comes to roads and cars. But this passage of Scripture is about being smart. In addition, I should mention that there is no fox mentioned here. Even in the New Testament passage I bring in during the sermon (Matt. 10:16), another animal is referenced. "Shrewd as a snake." But let's not get into that one.
