I suppose I should get serious somewhere on this website. Although it's pretty much about blowing off steam, some steam should be a little more useful than simply supplying a few yuks. This would be that place.
You may have noticed the title for this page is
Homiletics.
If you look that up in the dictionary, it says, "the art of preaching." We clergy types take college and seminary courses in homiletics. I'm sure they help, but all of us develop our own habits and styles, as well we should. Church goers often gravitate toward one style or another.
I love a lot of things in my life: the Lord; His people; diets. But one of the things I love the most is preaching. More and more, I consider it one of the joys and great privileges of my meager existence. Nothing is more exhilarating to me than delivering a message to a room full of people who somehow gravitated there by God's direction.
I don't listen to other preachers much anymore. Not enough hours in the day, really. But when I get to hear a passionate soul expound upon God's Word, I am often mesmerized and always consumed by the way the Spirit of God uses them to touch a complicated being like me. I've always wanted to be available for the Lord to use me like that for others.
I don't know how close I come, but I keep trying. I suspect I'll keep trying until the day I die...if not always with my words, then with my deeds. I'm vain enough to believe that's one of the reasons I'm here.
Sooo...having said that, check out
"WHAT I DIDN'T SAY" (if that makes sense).
