If You Were Raised Colossians 3:1-4
Delivered to Smith Chapel on August 7, 2011.
What I Didn't Say
Reformed--One of the things of which I seldom speak is the label of my theological belief. This sermon reminds me that I fall under the category of a Reformed Theologian (as much as I can be labeled a theologian). They (the profs) told us in seminary that we would be the local theologians in our congregations.
I suspect that is true, and if I am to declare myself, I would declare to be of the Reformed tradition. This may surprise many because I wasn't raised in that tradition, and was to a large extent not trained in that tradition either. And yet, the more I study and learn, the more I believe that my heart and mind are drawn to the theologies of Luther, Calvin, Knox, Schaeffer, et. al.
This sermon reminds me of that because of the emphasis on the biblical fact that we can't add anything to the work of the Christ on the cross. Jesus did it all. Even our response to Hiim is only possible through the faith which He gives us. And we respond with the good works which He created and provided for us to walk therein.
