The Day the Manna Stopped Joshua 5:9-12
Preached March 14, 2010 at Smith Chapel UMC
What I Didn't Say
Rerun--Years ago when I was somewhat of a rookie pastor, I preached a sermon with this same title based upon the same passage of Scripture in Joshua. I'll never forget it because one of my parishioners came to me after the sermon and said, "That was exceptional." I don't know that I've ever heard that said about any of my sermons since that time. I wish I had a recording of that to figure out what I did right.
Unintended Consequences--After I preached this sermon this past March, one of my parishioners noted that it really spoke to him about his relationship with his children. During the sermon, I mentioned that the manna stopped because it was time for the children of Israel to start providing for themselves. This particular parishioner decided that his adult children needed to provide for themselves from now on instead of relying on him so much.
