What I Didn't Say
Potpourri--When I named this sermon, I was thinking of the variant mixture to which the word refers. I was thinking of the catch-all quality of the term. The passage in question deals with such a mixture from the mind of Paul.
It wasn't until I preached the sermon, however, that it dawned on me how my normal usage of the word fit into the flow of what I was saying. In fact, it was right at the end of the sermon that it popped into my mind and out of my mouth. That, of course, is the specific use of the word potpourri to refer to the pleasant smelling conflation of herbs, spices, and whatever else they use to give our homes and offices a little sweeter fragrance.
May we be such a potpourri in the nostrils of our Lord.
