(Easter 2010)
The Prophets Testify Acts 10:34-43
Preached April 4, 2010 (Easter Sunday) at Smith Chapel UMC
What I Didn't Say
Easter--has always seemed like the hardest day to preach for me. How do you top the Resurrection? I realize we don't have to top it. Obviously we can't. It is probably the single greatest event in the history of humanity. And because of that fact, everyone knows about it, and most probably have some sort of understanding about why it happened and what it means for us. So, how do we preach it in a meaningful way that has a fresh feel for the congregation. Indeed, do we even need to attempt that feat? I guess any preacher worth his or her salt will at least try.
Henri Nouwen--I quote him in this sermon. To me, he was one of the most consistent and inspiring writers of our time. I love his works and always find myself returning to the things he left behind for us. If you've never read any of his stuff, I urge you to check him out.
