Sermons of the Fall
(This was written just prior to doing some lectionary preaching in the fall of 2010. I left this on the website because I think it says a little something about who I am and what I'm all about.)
I love preaching in the fall. The leaves are changing colors, the
weather is not too hot, not too cold. The congregation is often larger
(and maybe more attentive).
I also like to preach
about the fall as well (the fall from
grace, that is). No, this is not the beginning of a series in Genesis
(which is one of my favorite books from which to preach). It's not a
series on the fall either. In fact, it's not a series at all.
I'm just doing a little lectionary preaching. It's a discipline I force
upon myself at least every few years for at least a few months. I've
actually gotten to the place I enjoy it. It's much more difficult than
say, preaching through a book of the Bible. On the other hand, I've
been around so long it shouldn't be nearly the problem it was when I was
a rookie.
At any rate, we're in Lectionary Year C for a little longer. Until
Advent rolls around, I'll be posting C sermons. Hopefully, that's not
the grade they'll receive from the listeners.
Did I mention that I love preaching in the fall?
