When I preach a sermon, if it's been a good week or two, I will spend considerable time researching, studying, and reflecting on the Bible passage from which I'm preaching. Hopefully, that's no surprise to anyone (except maybe those who hear the results). After hours of study and reflection, a twenty minute sermon can't spew back all that went into it (praise be to God!).
What I would like to do (when I have time) is to give anyone interested an idea of what I didn't say. Hey...that would be a good title for this page. Okay...you talked me into it.
Sometimes I don't say things because they just don't fit the sermon. If you're scatter brained like me, that happens a lot. Sometimes I don't say things because they are political. I try to be as apolitical in the pulpit as I can. So the political thoughts here will be my own, mostly conservative, viewpoint. Take them with a grain of salt (and light if you wish).
Sometimes I don't say things because certain thoughts are just plain lame. I also have a lot of those. Although my parishioners think a lot of what I say is lame, they should thank God that most of the lame stuff doesn't get into the finished product.
When I have time, I'll try to write down some of those things. In other words, this is mere self indulgence. I'll include an MP3 of the selected sermon for you to hear if you want to take the time. Then I'll comment on
"What I didn't say" in the sermon. If you find anything of interest, feel free to download, copy, or otherwise steal what I say. After all, I've stolen it all from someone else (except for any personal anecdotes I may throw in from time to time). If you're really moved to action, you can contact me with
YOUR thoughts. I'd be more than happy to "dialog" with you as the big boys like to say.
C. S. Lewis once said, "It's so much easier to pray for a bore than to go and see one." So, if you find this all too boring, just come to the website from time to time, look at my picture for a second, and pray for me. That will make it all worthwhile...at least for me.
One final thought. Don't blame any of what you find here on the wonderful people of Smith Chapel UM Church (where I serve and preach). It's not their fault they have me for a Pastor. Blame the Bishop.

The sermons are listed (for the most part) under the category of the Bible book in which they're based .
