Volume 79, Chapter 6
After the time of the great Battle of the Eleventh Month, when the children of Bamadorf the Red were blunted and disgraced, the Soldiers of the Steel Fortress didst emerge. Their song had not been heard since the clash with the Scarlet Roc of the western regions from which they escaped victorious but lighter of purpose.
None of the nations looked upon them with great fear. This was proven to be to their own detriment. Great armies were delivered into the hands of the Steel Army as they campaigned throughout the lands. Many were surprised with their great tenacity and valour. Their weapons were many and their strength mighty. And their hearts were no longer inclined to the iniquity into which some had fallen. They were pure of heart and prepared for battle.
Slowly, they won back the hearts of their city and the respect of their elders. In due time, their triumphant ways became the lore of the land, and the spirits of their foes cowered within them. Yet their hearts were not inclined to understand the danger that awaited them.
In the fulness of time, they traveled into the land belonging to the the Men of the Bovine. The Bovinites had long been defeated and placed into submission. But the mighty Curd of the Whey had taken their land and laid in wait for the Soldiers of the Steel Fortress.
The skirmish was savage and vicious. Early in the day of battle, the Curd of the Whey smote the Soldiers of Steel until it wast perceived by many that the war wast lost. Yet late in the time of combat, the Steel Army rose up and nearly pushed the Curd back to whence they had begun the ambush.
Alas, victory was not to be won. The Soldiers of the Steel Fortress could not match the weaponry of the Curd of the Whey. In the final hour, the Curd delivered a decisive blow from which the Steel Army could not recover.
Yea verily, they returned to the Fortress of Steel, but their heads were held high. And lo, though discouragement didst follow them, their resolve was to once again engage the battle when their defenses were bolstered. And they didst vow in those times to one day cut the curd.
